The true results of road rage.

On February 28th 2005 I dropped off my son as usual at school and proceeded on my way to work. I had just passed my 12 week mark of pregnancy and was starting to get rid of the morning sickness. I was on 222 North for a few minutes when I realized that an SUV was coming up very quickly behind me in the left hand lane. He attempted to pass me on the right but ran out of room and proceeded to once again tailgate me. Once we passed a tractor trailor I attempted to get over into the right hand lane to let him pass however he had already started to try to pass me again on the right. So, I let him go around me and he proceeded to get into the left hand lane in front of me. I thought it was all over and that he had finally gotten what he wanted. However, shortly after he got in front of me he started to press on his breaks in quick successions. The first time he did it I was able to react and put on my breaks but the second time he did it I thought I was going to hit his back bumper so I swearved into the right lane and lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected to the left. I ended up crossing the median of 222 and was sideswiped by a car going 85 miles per hour. I was taken to the hospital and an ultrasound was performed. I was able to see the little heart beating and all of the legs and arms moving around. I thought everything was okay. However, I was eventually told that I was bleeding in my uterus and that the placenta had partially disected from my uterus. All of the doctors told me to prepare to miscarry. I was rushed to Women's and Babies hospital where everyone was bracing for the worst but hoping for the best. The next morning another ultrasound was performed and the baby was still going strong and my bleeding had stopped. I was kept in the hospital for an additional day of observation. Everyone thought we were out of the woods. Right before I was about to leave the hospital they decided to perform one additional ultrasound just to make sure. With all of my family huddled around the screen we were able to see that there was no heart beat. Sure enough, 20 mintues later the doctor arrived to tell me that the baby had died. I just couldn't believe this was happening and I still can't believe it. Unfortunately the baby was not developed enough to determine the sex so we named it Julia Francis. To top it all off there is nothing that can be done legally to the men that caused the accident due to the fact that the baby was not at least 20 weeks old. I will never forget this little life that was taken from my family so needlessly and it hurts so badly to know that according to the law my baby didn't count. I guess that is why I am writing this so that people realize that these babies do count!
